Urban charm meets technical excellence

This year’s German Orienteering Championships in Sprint and Sprint Relay promise to be an orienteering treat. The urbanity of the big city meets technically challenging sprint decisions and pure nature. The individual sprint decision will take place in a completely different type of terrain than the sprint relay.

While the individual race features a constant mix of park, forest and building complexes, the sprint relay will be run on the former grounds of the International Garden Show in Wilhemsburg's Inselpark. The park forms an oasis for sports, art and nature in the south of the Hanseatic city and is home to, among other things, an indoor swimming pool, a climbing wall and a skate park. Nature is expressed through its numerous ponds, streams and various gardens, such as the rhododendron garden or the rose boulevard. Tight decisions are inevitable here due to the constant contact with the opponents.

The competition terrain of the individual sprint is more diverse than ever. While the Hamburg City Park is dominated by green areas with woods and rhododendrons, the adjacent City North is a unique office city that is undergoing major changes, which constantly pose new challenges in terms of orientation. The competition area is characterized by numerous walls, fences and two superimposed levels, offering completely new tasks to any cunning technician.

It should be emphasized that the new sprint standard ISSPROM 2019-2 introduces new symbols concerning the representation of passable walls, passages and especially superimposed levels and their transitions. All in all, we are looking forward to offering you Sprint Orienteering at its best and hope for your numerous participation.

By the way, both finish areas are easily reachable within 20 minutes by public transport from Hamburg main station.
